Bucheon is located next to the Seoul, to the east and the north, Incheon to the west, and Shiheung to the south. It covers a total area of approximately 53.4 square kilometers, corresponding to 0.5% of total surface of Gyeonggi province. As of August, 2007, it has a population of 839,928 with 3 districts, 37 dongs.

The average yearly temperature is 12.0¡É, the average in January is £­1.1¡É, and the average in August is 24.7¡É. The annual average of precipitation is 1,155.8mm. The most precipitation is shown in the summer, when the northern Pacific Ocean appears, while the lowest precipitation appears in winter.

In December, 2005, the number of companies registered in Bucheon was 51,579, and that of the employees was 226,218. In terms of business type, it has advanced neighboring agriculture, stock-raising industry, flowering plant agriculture and machine manufacturing industry. In 2006 alone, Bucheon¡¯s trade volume amounted to US$3,259 Mil. with US$1,860Mil. in export, and US$1,399Mil in import.

Especially, Bucheon facilitates the highest number of metal pattern firms in South Korea, offers various supports for the industry, and has the largest lighting industry as well. Furthermore, Gyeonggi Digital Art Hive (DAH) - a direct cultural content outlet - and Bucheon Techno Park - an environmentally friendly and high-added value factory designed after an apartment complex- are pulling Bucheon¡¯s economy into the 21st century.

Incheon International Airport, Gyeongin Expressway, West coast expressway, Subway No.1, and Seoul outer expressway effectively connect Bucheon to the major cities both of domestically and internationally.

Bucheon is widely known as both the important cultural city and four season festivals. Especially, ¡®Bucheon Cartoon Festival¡¯ is an open festival that diagnoses a current state of cartoon industry in Korea and explores the future of cartoon industry by interchanging foreign cartoons. Also, the PiFan (Pucheon International Fantastic Film Festival) is widely considered by devoted film followers from all over the world as the distinct and unique characteristic festival itself and one of South Korea¡¯s top two film festivals. One can feel ¡®Love, Fantasy, and Adventure¡¯ watching fantasy and horror-related flicks and events.

In this regards, the Korean government has selected Bucheon as the best cultural industry cluster in the comic book sector. The government is now providing financial supports and other forms of incentives to develop comic books as promising industry.
Under the vision of ¡®Bucheon in 2015¡¯, Bucheon is launching the second take-off to transform itself to the 21st century media city equipped with high-tech industry. It also aimed an economic city providing good environment for business based on culture and an environmentally friendly city where green nature and resting place coexists.
